William R. Hein

January 17, 1932 — July 10, 2021

JANESVILLE: William R. Hein, age 89, of Janesville died on July 10, 2021, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center. He was born in Brodhead, Wis., on January 17, 1932, the son of William H. and Myrtle (Gritzmaker) Hein. He attended Brodhead schools, Beloit College and UW-Madison. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. William married Sandra K. Breese on June 2, 1962.

William and Sandra settled in Janesville. They had six children, William Jr., John, Brenda, David, Robert and Matthew. Bill worked for Fairbanks-Morse, Beloit, WISCO Hardware, Madison and Risum Implement, Brodhead. He then went to work for William J. Kennedy & Son, Footville which later became Rock Road Company. He was employed by Kennedy and the Rock Road group for over 53 years serving as Office Manager, Corporate Secretary and Corporate Vice-President. He was also employed as an insurance agent for 20 years.

Bill was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he served as treasurer for several years. He served as a supervisor on the Town of Rock Board for several years. He was also a boy scout leader when his sons were involved in Boy Scouting. Bill enjoyed hunting, was an avid reader and followed the Wisconsin teams, especially the UW Badgers and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed traveling extensively and loved family get togethers.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sandra Hein; five children, William R. Hein Jr., Brenda K. (Paul) Gilbertson, David M. (Jennifer) Hein, Robert J. (Jacqueline) Hein and Matthew S. (Jannine) Hein; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary (James) Share. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, John R. Hein who died in 1986.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to Noon on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at ST. PETER’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1422 Center Avenue, Janesville. Funeral services will follow at 12 Noon Thursday, July 15th at the CHURCH. Rev. Bruce Gray will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
