Velma Lee Thomas a resident of Janesville, WI passed away on August 31, 2025, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, Janesville at age 86. Velma was born on May 10, 1939, in Little Rock, AR, the daughter of Melvin and Mattie (Fitzgerald) Moss, she grew up in the Aurora, IL area and graduated from East Aurora High School. Velma retired from Armour Swift and Company of St. Charles, IL after working many years in the meat packing industry.
Velma was a resident of Janesville since 2019 when she moved here to be near her son Anthony Jackson III and his wife Lani. Velma will be remembered for her love of dancing, family cookouts and the special fondness she had for her grandchildren.
Velma Thomas is survived by her children, Michael Moss, Anthony (Lani) Jackson III, Stanley (Cindy) Jackson, and Sharla Jackson; grandchildren, Lavon Thomas, Lamesha Thomas, Michael Moss, Shawna Fiagiano, Urell Covington, Kevin Thomas, Nina Thomas, Jazmin Jackson, Daniel Jackson, Dalvin Dawkins, Lauren Jackson, Hailey Robinson, Jeromy Jordan, Devin Kilianek, Jada Jackson, Marcel Suby, Scott Suby Jr., Shella McDaniel, and Stephonn Taylor; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Mattie Moss; husband, Billy Thomas; brother, Melvin “Buddy” Moss Jr.; sons Lamont Thomas and Kevin Thomas; grandsons, Diondre Ticer, Anthony Jackson IV, Seandell Bristol, and Adrian Hernandez.
A celebration of life for Velma will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon with services to follow at 12 noon at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville. Immediately following the service friends and family are invited to gather for food and fellowship at the Peace Park Pavilion located at 2801 Rockport Road, Janesville, WI 53545.
