Marsha Arlene Martin of Janesville, passed away on September 15, 2025, at Cedar Crest surrounded by her family at age 85. Marsha was born in Viroqua, Wis., on March 27, 1940, the daughter of Marvin and Elaine (Larson) Skrede. She grew up in the Viroqua area where she attended schools and graduated from Viroqua High School.
Marsha married Dale Martin on August 6, 1961, in Viroqua. Following the marriage, she moved to Janesville. Three children were born of the marriage, Steven, Rhonda and Diane. Marsha started working at Mercy Hospital, first as a candy striper and later as a nurse’s aide. After working as a nurse’s aide for a time, she went back to school at Blackhawk Technical College, studying to become a registered nurse. After receiving her degree as a registered nurse, she returned to Mercy Hospital. She retired as a shift coordinator with a total of over 40 years of employment at Mercy.
Marsha was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church. She will be remembered for her love of shopping, doing crossword puzzles, and looking forward to playing cards with her card club. She also received great joy from helping others as well as returning to visit her old home area of Viroqua and Gays Mills. A highlight of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marsha’s family include her children: Steven (Cristal) Martin, Rhonda (Andy) Gleichauf, and Diane (Stephen) Pearson; grandchildren, Jason (Ashley) Cornell, Jennifer (Jason) Purdy, Joshua Cornell, Matthew (Heather) Martin, Tad Martin, Ren Martin, Dylan Martin, Lucas Pearson, Laine Pearson, and Ruby Pearson; great-grandchildren, Mason, Tanner, Kai, Abigail, Rozalyn, Kendyl, and Alivia; sisters-in-law Marilyn Skrede and Maryellen Martin; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Marsha was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Martin on August 10, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother; Richard Skrede; and a sister, Joy (Tom) Hanson.
A special thank you to the staff at Cedar Crest and Agrace Hospice for all the loving care they gave to Marsha.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cedar Crest Foundation or Agrace Hospice in Marsha’s memory.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2025, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville. Rev. Bond Haldeman will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 24th and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, September 25th at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME. Private entombment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park.
