Margaret Bristol Henke

Margaret Bristol Henke of Janesville, WI passed away on October 2, 2025 at Rock Haven at age 93. She was born in Greenwich, CT on December 2, 1931, the daughter of Gardner and Gladys (Whiting) Bristol. She grew up in Greenwich and graduated from Greenwich High School. Margaret attended the School of Nursing at Greenwich Hospital and the University of Connecticut. After moving to Wisconsin, she was employed at UW Hospital in Madison.

On August 24, 1963, Margaret married Richard Henke at the Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church. For a time, she was employed by Mercy Hospital and later for 17 years by Dean Riverview Clinic. Margaret will be remembered for her love for Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church and its congregation where she was a member for 62 years. It was there that she sang in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher for 17 years, had served on the board of trustees, helped with Meals on Wheels, was a member of Sunset Circle and Prairie Pals. She was a long-time member of the Rock Prairie Homemakers Club.

Margaret Henke is survived by her son, David (Val) Henke; son-in-law Dan Landherr; grandchildren, Sarah Landherr and Matthew Landherr; great-granddaughter, Morgan Landherr; step-grandchildren, Cassie (Jon) Wohlert, Nathan (Lilli) Swayne and Stephanie Swayne; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Tana Kaptchen who helped Margaret stay in her own home until her most recent illness. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Henke who passed January 23, 1996; her daughter, Diane Landherr who passed away June 5, 2016; her parents; brother, Neil Bristol; sister, Nancy Kaptchen and nephew Peter Kaptchen.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 at ROCK PRAIRIE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 8605 East County Road A, Janesville. Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Jones will officiate. Private burial will follow in Johnstown Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 9th at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME and at ROCK PRAIRIE CHURCH on October 10th from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services.
