Larry Leroy Nelson

Larry Leroy Nelson, 81 years of Janesville WI passed away Sunday, October 4, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born February 1, 1945 the son of Andrew and Leona (Rickey) Nelson. Larry entered the U. S. Navy on November 10, 1964 where he served during the Vietnam War. He was discharged on November 9, 1968. Larry will be remembered as being an avid competitor. He brought passion and a friendly competitive drive to his favorite past-times, horseshoes and shuffleboard. He was always the man to beat. He simply loved being outdoors.

Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jane (Hill) Nelson; his children, Darin (Marilyn) Nelson, Lisa (Tom) Liebergen, Laura (Randy) Smith; his only granddaughter, Aribelle Liebergen, who was the apple of his eye; his sister, Shirley (Frank) Thomas; brothers, Gordon (Sally) Nelson, Rick Nelson; many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene, Robert, William, Dale, Ross, Keith; sisters, Phyllis and Judy.

A celebration of life will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1621 1015 Center Avenue, Janesville from 12 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2026. Military rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. by the Kienow-Hilt V. W. F. Post # 1621 Honor Squad.
