John William Gundersen Jr.

John (Jack) William Gundersen Jr, age 82, of Janesville, WI passed away on July 13, 2025 at Discovery Commons in Brookfield, WI. He was moved to Brookfield after the death of his wife in 2023 to be closer to family. He was born in Platteville, WI on Nov 11, 1942, the son of John and Ruth (Braun) Gundersen. He grew up in Janesville and attended public school there.

John was united in marriage to Mary (Kapelle) on June 9, 1973. He worked helping his mother with her ownership of a tavern and had his own business selling automobile parts. He and Mary enjoyed outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and being with family, friends and neighbors. He was also involved with helping his mother after her retirement, and until her death.

Jack is survived by his sister-in-law, Janet Olsen of Waukesha, WI; step brother-in-law Michael (Barbara) Mueller of Cedarburg, WI; nephew, Eric (Amanda Lyman) Olsen and their children, Aydah and Mayslin; nephew, David Olsen; niece, Elizabeth Mueller (Ryan) Billings, and daughter Charlotte. Jack’s parents preceded him in death.

Jack was in memory care for the past two years. His smile, wit, conversations, and determination to be as independent as possible, will be missed by the family, staff, other residents and their families.

Family wishes to thank the staff at Heartis/Discovery Commons, the memory care unit, and Heartland Hospice for all the encouragement, attention, and care they provided during his stay.

Visitation will be held Thursday August 14, 2025, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville from 2 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Private interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Janesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
