Jerry Wells age 92 of Janesville, WI passed away at Cedar Crest on April 27, 2026. He was born in Janesville on February 16, 1934, the son of Stanley and Mae (Nelson) Wells. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1952 and attended Milton College. Following high school, Jerry joined the family business, Wells Motors, and remained there until he retired in 1992. It was there that he met his wife to be, Phyllis Jean Halom, who stopped in to shop for a car. They married on September 18, 1954. Jerry served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed in El Paso, TX where he taught auto mechanics. Jerry loved the car business. His passion was working with the customers, many of whom became life-long friends.
Jerry was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church where he served on both the church and Foundation boards, was on various church committees, was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed being a BG. He served on the Cedar Crest board for over 20 years, was a volunteer escort at Mercy Hospital for 30 years and served on the Blackhawk Technical College advisory board. Jerry enjoyed woodworking, especially, making clocks. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing and will be remembered for keeping his lawn well manicured.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Pam Wells; sister-in-law, Shirley Schulze, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Diane Halom; nieces and nephews, Dale (Sonja) Kessinger, Nancy Zarnstorff, Kay (Mark) Fosler, Cindy (Randy) Sorenson, and Martin (Melinda) Halom. Jerry’s wife Phyllis passed away on May 26, 2018. He is also preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Maxine and Wiley Kessinger; brother-in-law Al Schulze; nephew Randy Kessinger and niece Gail Kessinger-Steinke.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2026 at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville. Rev. Michael Mueller and Rev. James Johnson will officiate. Military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621 will follow the service at the Funeral Home. Visitation is on Friday, May 1st from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME. Private entombment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or Agrace Hospice. Online condolences may be shared at www.henkeclarson.com.
