Floyd S. Short

August 2, 1937 — August 1, 2025

Floyd Stanley Short passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, in his home at the age of 87. Floyd was born August 2, 1937, to Violet (Mitchell) and Fred Short in Hillsboro, Wis. Floyd was the youngest of four siblings, Dorthy, Carnie, and Dean. The family farmed near Ontario, Wisconsin. He had many stories about trout fishing, maple syrup making, and his dog Butch. He often remarked how thankful he was to have been raised in the country for its wholesome goodness and strong values.

He attended Johnny Cake, a one room schoolhouse, and then onto Ontario schools. In 1958, he married Joanne Marie Sanders. They bought and farmed near Mt. Tabor Wis. After 10 years of struggle and backbreaking work they moved the family to Beloit, Wis. He worked at Fairbanks-Morse for 20 years as a machinist, then as a boiler operator at Beloit Hospital.

In 1974, the family moved back to the country near Afton, Wis., remodeling an old farmhouse, and creating a place where he would again share some of his favorite activities with his five children. Floyd was a true “Jack of all Trades” Carpenter, Plummer, Electrician, Mason, Painter, Tree Trimmer, Handyman, and hard worker in every way. In 1988 they moved to Janesville where Floyd continued to manage rental properties. He enjoyed the rental business and had many tenants that became lifelong friends. In the last years of his life, Floyd would enjoy times with family, playing pool, and adventuring with his friend and special companion Katie, along with Molly, his cherished dog.

Floyd is survived by his five children, Deon (Greg) Wentworth, Steven (Ellen) Short, Kim Christenson, Jeffery (Jodi) Short, and Charity (Shane) Dillinder; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Also, other special people, Katie Olson, Joanne (Bernard) Shields, and Randy (Sandy) Benish.
