Earl C. Marquis, the only son of Clarence E. and Myrtle A. Marquis, was born on May 27, 1942, and knocked on the pearly gates of heaven on April 26, 2026.
During his youth he spent many weekends at the family cottage in Lincoln County learning carpentry, how to fish (which became a lifelong passion) and swimming in Long Lake. In grade school he was a Cub Scout and earned many badges and the Arrow of Light. He was also Master Councilor while being a member of the Order of DeMolay. Earl was also a camp counselor for two years at Camp Tasomas.
Earl began his musical journey learning to play piano, accordion and cornet. In high school he continued the cornet in band and orchestra. Earl graduated from Wausau High School in 1960; the year their basketball team brought home the gold ball. Enrolling and graduating from Wausau Tech college with a degree in residential design was next after high school. This helped him get his first job at Sterling Custom Homes in Fond du Lac Wisconsin. While working there he joined the Wisconsin National Guard Red Arrow for six years and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant E6. Also, at this time Earl completed schooling at Spencerian College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. His next job was with Spancrete Industry in Waukesha, but they couldn’t offer the desired growth he desired so he reapplied and took a job with Sterling until the Schutte Brothers bought out the company. After a brief time, Earl moved his family to Milton Wisconsin in August 1984 after starting a stable job with Amwood Homes. From this company he was a department manager and Senior Draftsman until his retirement in 2012.
Earl met his wife of 60 years Janice Arlene Hoeth in the Presbyterian church choir in Wausau. They also sang in choir together while in Milwaukee and Fond du Lac before settling into Rock Prairie Presbyterian church choir in 1985.
In his adult years Earl was proud of being part of the Scouting community where he and Jan were Cub Scout leaders, he was a pack leader and troop leader. Many awards were earned including wood badge and the Silver Beaver award. They are also proud that both of their sons earned the honor of Eagle Scout.
Earl is survived by his wife Janice Marquis; sons, Timothy and Mark Marquis; and daughter, Vicki Solomon-McClain. He also has grandchildren, Mike Solomon, Emma McClain, Jacqueline Marquis, London Marquis and Jade Marquis. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as sisters, Ruth Ann Busko and Sue Alice Ninneman.
A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church, 8605 East County Road A Janesville. Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Jones will officiate. Henke-Clarson Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family. Online condolences can be shared at www.henkeclarson.com.
