David Gilbert Thill, age 85 of Janesville, WI passed away at his home on May 18, 2026. He was born in Lake City, MN on August 23, 1940 the only child of Leslie and Jeanive (Gunderson) Thill. David graduated from Crystal Lake, IL High School in 1959 and later received an associate’s degree in business. He was a veteran of the U. S Army Reserves.
David married Mary A. Vedok on December 3, 1966. He was employed in sales most of his life. He was active in the community and was past president of the Janesville Noon Kiwanis Club and a past member of the Janesville Noon Lions Club. David’s love of rescuing dogs led him to serve as president of the Rock County Humane Society. He was an avid stamp collector, especially of Russian stamps. David will be remembered for his great love for the St. Louis Cardinals and for the enjoyment he received from collecting baseball cards and memorabilia. An avid wood carver, he was the owner of Brown Paw Crafts and a member of Rock River Valley Carvers of Wisconsin. David was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
David Thill is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Thill; daughters, Melissa (Steven) Costello, Stephanie Hansen; grandchildren, Beckett (Megan Armstrong) Costello, Ryan (Makinzie Traver) Costello, Nadia Hansen and Catherine Hansen. David’s parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH. The Reverend TJ Humphrey will preside. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27th at the CHURCH. Graveside services will be at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary, IL at 2 p.m. May 27th. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in David’s name to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin. HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME is assisting the Thill family.
